If it doesn't plug and play you select the audio output device in Control Panel>Sounds and Multimedia>Audio. While you are there (and if you're concerned about audio quality) you should click on the advanced tab and set sample rate conversion to 'Best', especially if you use the Windows volume control. There is also a Sounds tab where you can specify No Sounds as the Sound Scheme, to keep unwanted system sounds from playing over the stereo.
