It's convenient, and really a slick interface, but it doesn't give the system any new capabilities and arguably complicates the setup even more. > i know techies love having the server on the computer and being open > source and all that, but i for one would rather use this device sans > computer. SlimServer chose their path a long time ago. A relatively dumb device relying on the brains running in very complex server software on a computer that is powerful enough to do the job. Logitech bought into that philosophy and that's where it stands. If the direction changes to some kind of all-in-one device then it will no longer be recognizable as the product it once was. And I expect that few, if any, of the orginal designers and developers would remain with the project. I wouldn't be completely amazed to see that happen, but it will only happen if the current approach completely bombs as a consumer product. -- JJZolx Jim ------------------------------------------------------------------------ JJZolx's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=43198 _______________________________________________ discuss mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
