That's really just a step in a different direction.  It's convenient,
and really a slick interface, but it doesn't give the system any new
capabilities and arguably complicates the setup even more.

SlimServer chose their path a long time ago.  A relatively dumb device
relying on the brains running in very complex server software on a
computer that is powerful enough to do the job.  Logitech bought into
that philosophy and that's where it stands.  If the direction changes
to some kind of all-in-one device then it will no longer be
recognizable as the product it once was.  And I expect that few, if
any, of the orginal designers and developers would remain with the
project.  I wouldn't be completely amazed to see that happen, but it
will only happen if the current approach completely bombs as a consumer
product.
