I'm probably missing your point, but it has been possible to control the
SB via wifi for several years already (eg, PDA, computer, Nokia tablet,
wifi enabled cell phones, etc.). All of those use the
slimserver/SqueezeCenter web interface, whereas the new controller
(SBC) has its own purpose-built interface written in Lua. The SBC
interface is in many ways far superior to the web ui, but if you want
to use other wifi devices, the same options are still there.

Also note that at the present time you need the new SBC to setup the
new Squeezebox Receiver (SBR) (SBC+SBR=Duet), but there is already a
plugin in the works to make it possible to setup the SBR over regular
wired ethernet.
