Is this a rant or a request for some help? If it's a rant, well, glad you got that off your chest. I know how you feel as I'm the IT guy in my house, so it's my fault if someone's printer won't print, etc... Otherwise, you might mention some other system details. For instance, are -both- your squeezebox and server connected wirelessly? If so, any chance of running a wire between your router and the server? Do other internet streams work OK (like Pandora or Rhapsody, if you're using them)? What if you "cut the server out of the loop" by connecting your player directly to squeezenetwork?
