The SB "Classic" (SB3 etc.) do this via the headphone jack. The headphone jack was excluded from the SBR as part of the effort to meet demand for a lower cost SB (search the forums, it was discussed at considerable length when the Duet came out -- of course, the main cost savings was omitting the VFD). Not everyone was happy about it, but if IR output is important you can always go for an SB3 or SB2.
