Let me start by saying that I love the duet now that I have it working.
The UI on the controller is quite snappy and I love the seamless
integration of Pandora and Slacker - no explicitly connecting to
squeezenetwork! I gave my wife a 30 sec. tour this morning and she's
off and running with it. She just sent me email that she is now using
it with the SB3 in the family room.

My only gripe is the setup of the controller. If Joe-Shmoe user had my
experience, I think the box would have been returned.

I have 2 SB3 already and am running SC 7.1 production.

I ran into 2 issues - one minor, but the other was quite painful.

Issue 1: Wireless configuration
===============================
I followed the instructions and the setup does not follow the
documented flow. Nor is the flow intuitive. I don't broadcast my SSID
and I have WPA set up. It asked for my SSID and that was fine. But
then it automatically went to connect. Of course it failed. My
options on the menu were to try again or select another network.
Trying again just blindly tried again. What about entering my WPA
info?? Out of frustration, I go back a menu. THERE it has a menu for
selecting your security type. I enter the info and all is well. Why
not present that menu prior to attempting to connect? Or present it
after a connection attempt fails? Or say "go back to enter info".

Issue 2: Connecting to the server
=================================
This was a bear. And I'm not sure how I made it work. After getting
over the wireless hurdle, I set up the receiver. It shows up on the
list, the lights do their dance, and all is well. Then it asks which
server to connect to. My server shows up and I select it. Not matter
what I did, the connection always failed!! The interesting part is
that I could use the web browser and play music through the player!!
So the player was set up correctly!

So I read the manual in detail and didn't see any steps I missed. I
did a factory reset, entered my info again and again (lots of spinning,
clicking, but definitly no grooving!).

I reboot my router and server. Still no joy. For kicks, I decide to
attempt to connect to squeezenetwork rather than my local server. Now
all of a sudden, it jumps to where it is updating the controller
software. Then is asks for my user name and password. NOW I'm
connected to my local server, NOT squeezenetwork. But I'm happy - it's
working!! But I'm not 100% sure I could repeat the scenario. And given
the 2 hours I spent on it, I'm not ready to do a factory reset and try
again.

Details of my setup:
===================
Open SuSE 10.2
Squeezecenter 7.1 production release
Linksys wrt54gs 1.1 running DD-WRT v24-SP1
2 SB3s
Duet
IPs assigned through static DHCP (all validated to be unique. Server
checked that is was assigned the IP I think it should have.)

Some questions:
==============
I have a username/password setup on squeezecenter because I remote
stream and have the port forwarded - does this present an issue?

What does a user that just bought the controller do to to skip the
receiver setup? Suposed I just wanted to use the controller with my
existing SB3s?

I wonder if the issue is that the stock FW that the controller had was
really old and presented a problem. Is there a way to skip the
scripted setup and just get into the controller settings?

Conclusion:
==========
I'm thrilled with the product. Both the controller and receiver feel
solidly built. The controller is a joy to use - intuitive and very
responsive. I was very frustrated with the controller configuration.
I'm left wondering what I should/could have done differently to avoid
that experience since others seem to have had NO problems at all.

Thanks for reading.
