I too have experienced your second issue - no connectivity to SqueezeCenter but able to log into SqueezeNetwork - but since installing a second WRT54GS with stock Linksys firmware everything has worked as it should when the Controller is configured to connect via the WiFi on the router running Linksys firmware.
