Hi,

I taught an intro to unix to total beginners yesterday (in preparation for a
bioinformatics hands-on course) in a SWC-inspired manner, without actually
using the material. I then sent them an email explaining that they could learn
more and practice using the novice unix material at
http://software-carpentry.org/v5/novice/shell/index.html. However, it struck me
that this material, which rid built on a set of files and folder in the bc
repo, doesn't really stand on its own. What I mean is, if a learn wants to
follow the material, using the files and folders in
https://github.com/swcarpentry/bc/tree/master/novice/shell, they need to:

- download the entire repo as a zip file
- unzip it to a location they can find it again (e.g., Desktop)
- open their terminal
- write cd Desktop/bc-master/novice/shell/filesystem/users/nelle

and they are ready to start. (Assuming they don't know how to 'git clone' the
repo).

Is it an idea to provide such instructions for people wanting to use the
material on their own, or practice after a bootcamp?

Best,

Lex
