The NIH workshop in DC on January 8-9 will be live webcast. I am sure I can arrange to record it as well. I think it is certainly more comfortable to be a helper first before being an instructor although not mandatory. I definitely think it helps to at least see a workshop once before trying to run one although also not mandatory; especially if one has prior teaching experience. There are a number of distracting logistics while trying to run a workshop.
