Sorry to be late getting to this thread - we've run modified Software
Carpentry workshops for librarians before, and hope to do so again, but
not for patrons in general. I agree that we have to restrict enrollment
in the instructor training course to people who are likely to teach
Software Carpentry or Data Carpentry - we've got over 100 people
registered for the next two runs of that training, and people are
already signing up for January 2016. I don't know the Library Freedom
project that Marianne pointed to, but code4lib are a good bunch, so I'd
point the person there to start.
