Hi,
Just to add my 2c's worth. Mobaxterm is the best free ssh client I
have come across for windows and comes with it's own bundled X-server
which I guess is it's main purpose. Nice that it can be used in other
ways as well ...

Hi all,
One Windows solution that my students seem to like is MobaXterm
(http://mobaxterm.mobatek.net/), which they've used successfully for
the BASH workshop. It comes with a syntax-highlighting text gui text
editor and the terminal doesn't have the fonts problems mentioned
elsewhere. Installing git requires a couple more clicks with its
package manager, but it's my current front-runner for getting Windows
users something workable in a pinch. For what it's worth, a fifteen
minute introduction to 'vimtutor' was enough to have my class (13
students) eschew nano in favor of vim.
Best,
Eric

Hi everyone,
One thing that we saw when we followed the "windows console" solution, is
that we were unable to change the font size to display well if the
instructor used the same solution. We wanted to recreate the environment of
our learners (who were all on Windows) exactly as instructors, but the small
font proved a challenge. Maybe there actually is a way to change the font
in this setup?
Generally, right-clicking on the title bar of a Windows command prompt
window pops up a menu with a "Properties" item, which leads to dialog
that has a "Font" tab. The "Consolas" fonts in that dialog can be set
to a reasonably big size, and they can also be made bold to further
improve readability (particularly if the projector isn't terribly bright).
Best regards, Jan

Thanks everyone for the quick solution.
I had seen the "windows console" instructions online but had initially
avoided it, thinking it would set up some kind of hybrid DOS/bash prompt
window. I'll give it a try.

Steve

I am trying to set up a new postdoc with git bash (rather than MSYS2

there a resolution to the similar discussion a month ago?
We did an install and can do `nano -h` but get a "Redirection not
supported" error otherwise. Searching for that error shows very old posts
with broken links.
The resolution to the problem has been merged into the default setup
instructions for workshops. It worked well for the recent workshop I ran.
Here's the link to the generic workshop template site:
