Also a rubbish and/or recycling bin, especially useful when food and drink are
consumed in the room.

Some additional ideal features:

* whiteboard markers (in multiple colors) & erasers
* smartboard to capture whiteboard diagrams, notes, etc.
* lectern that is flat (slanted ones make it really hard to use a laptop)
* VGA/HDMI/Mac adapters for projector (I've never used a Mac so I don't know
what the different types are)
* Facilities & IT staff on hand (because even with the ideal set up, stuff will
still go wrong)
* quiet HVAC and adjustable HVAC with human-friendly controls
* allows food in room
* no one else uses the room in between the two day sessions
* roomy enough to easily walk between tables (so helpers can easily navigate
around students)
* breastfeeding space (I'm still angry about that time a local women-in-tech
group offered me a "very clean and spacious toilet stall")

Subject: [Discuss] your ideal training space is...?

Hi,

Suppose you're running a Software Carpentry-style workshop (hands on, a couple
of days, 30-40 people) - what features would your ideal room have? So far I've
got:

- in-floor power outlets every 3m
- disabled access
- reliable high-capacity WiFi (probably its own node)
- dual screen/dual projector
- wheeled tables (easy to rearrange)
  - support forward-facing, U-shaped, small islands
- extra HVAC to handle crowds with laptops in summer
- whiteboards on all available surfaces
- soundproof (or close to)
- easy external access (no interior barriers)
- easy access to washrooms and coffee area (no internal barriers)
- clock on rear wall (visible to trainer but not distracting trainees)
- storage closet for office supplies (so that they don't wander away as quickly)
- adjustable lighting with human-comprehensible controls
- easy printer access (in room or nearby)

What would you add?
Cheers,
Greg
