Hi all,

I agree with Shoaib that the "Lessons Learned" paper doesn't describe goals and progress - it was meant primarily for internal consumption.  I think Teal et al [1] and Williams & Teal [2] do a better job of laying out the big picture, though they're focused on Data Carpentry, and again are now a couple of years out of date.  If anyone would like to do a paper on the Carpentries to complement the ones we've now done on best practices [3], good enough practices [4], and collaborative lesson development [5], I think that would be a wonderful contribution.

Cheers,

Greg

Subject: Re: [Discuss] Citing Software Carpentry and Data Carpentry

Hmm - it would not make sense in the context I am using it in to refer to
lessons learned.

I was looking for something describing what Software/Data Carpentry is (e.g.
goals, activities, progress) - that would make more sense - otherwise I guess I
could just cite the About page for each initiative.

A wider question is how is Software & Data Carpentry tracking being referred to?

Would be nice to have a ‘Cite us’ page in one of the menu’s so it was clear.

Thanks
Shoaib

What’s the best way to cite Software Carpentry and Data Carpentry
Maybe not the correct one, but I would cite

Wilson G. Software Carpentry: lessons learned [version 1; referees: 3
approved]. F1000Research 2014, 3:62
(doi: 10.12688/f1000research.3-62.v1)
