I've been doing some experimenting with this. I think the reason the
working with the splitter often fails is that the mouse cursor
doesn't get there; I tried several times to move it and the mouse
cursor said it was being moved but was actually still on the Apple menu.
What does seem to work, though I don't have it down to enough of a
science to explain it, is using vokeys-accent and/or vokeys-tilde to
resize the window. You do one of these combinations and then if I
understand correctly you use vokeys-arrow to change width and height
and you do get some feedback when doing it. I finally did get the
pane closed this way but I did have to tab to find the messages table
again. I know this isn't sounding too coherent but I'll have to
experiment with it more to figure out how it worked.
