Navigate to the item and press Control-Option-Shift-m, this is like
control-clicking on an item to bring up the contextual menu.

Subject: saving a linked document
Folks, I found a pdf file I want to pull off a site, in windows a "right
click" will get you an option to save the pdf file, so how is this
accomplished in Safari. I'm sure I'm missing something in the help file,
but haven't found it yet.
