Yes, indeed, you can have things called automatically when you
login. Under normal unix type environments, you could just add it
to .profile and it would run when you logged in. I've not tried this
with osx, so don't know if it will work or not. However, Apple does
provide a way to do this.
It's called login items. Using system preferences, click on
accounts, then select login items. There's a table there listing
your current login items. There's buttons to add or delete items as
well. Just add whatever program you like to the list, and it will
run when you login to your machine. I have a program here that will
allow you to edit these from a regular program, but it's not 100%
working with vo yet, and until I can figure out how the heck to
change graphical items on the screen, I don't want to hand it out
just yet, since it's still too much related to apple sample code for
me to call it mine.
