Mike, Do you not find the vo caption panel useful?
I know that you can use office somewhat through the mac speech
functions, but don't own a copy of it. As for when it will be
compatible with VO, I've heard that it will be but not when.

And while we're on the subject, do you know if or when MS plans to
upgrade Macintosh Office to add VO? Word is (apparently) the only
Office application that has a speech function built in.
