I've found that column view seems faster.

Ok well for some reason the unpack tool just dumpped the files into a
directory, but didn't make one of its own. In other words I wanted
them to be in the books folder, but it didn't make a folder within
that folder.
as to your question of finder's problem with the file, I don't
know why finder would have a problem with it. I went into one of
my book directories--the one for "vo getting started" which is a
daisy2 book but is not a bookshare book, and when I got to a .smil
file finder identified it as a "smil mutimedia file". Did you have
trouble when you cursored to the file in finder or was there
something you were trying to do with it that hung finder?
It was when I was checking the contents of the folder and cursored
over to the file itself.
Just wanted to see waht files were in the directory.
