Hi Gordon,
I think the more technically versed can answer the question about Apple
selling components for sure, but I don't believe they do. I think this sort
of thing would have to be done via a third party vendor. I would assume
that now that there are the Intel Macs, one will be able to piece together
Macs from scratch. I don't think Apple indorses such a method and, to me,
like you said and Dennis said, I'd rather just by the whole package from
Apple and be certain as to exactly what I'm getting. I think the ages old
notion that some Windows PC folks have that a system isn't good unless you
can constantly fiddle and "upgrade" specific components is, unfortunately,
carrying over to this "new Mac" world.
Take Care

This raises the point actually John. Do Apple sell the motherboards and
other components for the Mac as separate items? I have to agree with Dennis
though. If you buy a Mac pre-built, then you know what you're getting and
it just works. I had a quick look at and play with an Intel IMac on
Thursday. Very nice machines, and I intend to buy one later this year.
