I know that here in Australia, you can use one line for both fax and
phone calls, a different number is assigned for your fax service and
when this number is dialed, a different sort of phone ring is heard,
you can set your fax machine or modem to identify this "distinctive
ring" though I haven't seen this particular function available under
the Ibooks internal modem settings.
