Hi Bruce,
Thanks for that, you confirmed and corrected a lot there. I am still
subscribed by the way, I'll stay at least until the list decides whether
I can help with a wiki or not.
Your reference would have been very handy, can I link to that in an update?
With regards to previous experience, I had been using the Mini for a
couple of months before the evaluation, and although not expert, I'm
happy using Macs. I thought that would be important to help reduce the
lack of familiarity.
After listening to Darcy & Holly's podcasts, it seems that going through
the install process with VO was probably the first step we should have
taken. They didn't read the manual and seemed to have a better time for it.
The other aspect that I would have liked to have known about is locking
the vo-keys. Well, I'd read about it, but as the entire manual always
uses the full key combos I had quickly forgotten about it.
Re keyboard access in general:
As a sited person who prefers to use the keyboard, I would really like
good keyboard access without the screen reader on as well (for when I've
saved up for the Macbook pro ;)
My fingers are also crossed for leopard, although I'd prefer to uncross
them and prod the right person...
I would put myself in the "pretending to use JAWs" camp, or rather, the
non-serious use. Most of my use is for web development testing (apart
from one time when recovering from an eye-op), and I would always check
with a real user before making any decisions that would affect the
experience.
I'm interested in the control for unix stuff, option for extended
characters. Is there some further reading on that?
Kind regards,
-Alastair
