I have changed the subject to reflect the questions
to change the application that opens types of files here is what to do I use
column view for the file lists all the time
navigate to the file
say a MP3 file or a ms word file
we will do it to a MP3 file
so go to an MP3 file
then do command plus I to go to the get info dialogue
in this you have to use the vo keys to move right across the dialogue
you have to expand the discloser triangles
do this with the spacebar or vo keys space whichever you like
move across till you get to the box that says
open with and make sure it says expanded discloser triangle
move across with the vo keys
there will be a popup button that probably says itunes
click on this with vo keys
move to say quick time
do vo keys space
a dialogue will pop up which asks you if you want to change all MP3 files to
open in quick time
accept this and off you go
of course you have to press the play button in quick time to start the file
but you can play all MP3 from now on in quick time
by the way if you have play lists m3u lists
you can open these in quick time too and into gives you a pop up box with
the tracks in it.
so you can move and chose tracks
quick time will play the whole list
I also use COG to play some files like aag and flaq
