Do we have a spreadsheet application that can be used with VoiceOver?
This is certainly a productivity program where I work!
There have been a few discussions about an accessible spreadsheet
application on the list. At least a couple of listers have contacted
the developers of Mariner Calc <http://www.marinersoftware.com/> to
request adjustments to the software for VoiceOver compatibility.
With VoiceOver, I've also tried Tables (link follows):
http://www.x-tables.eu/more/overview.html
and
Mesa 3 (link follows):
http://www.plsys.co.uk/mesa.htm
In both of the above Cocoa applications, the custom view - where
tables/cells are displayed - has not been properly enabled for
accessibility. The developers of either of the applications should be
able to retrofit those custom views (no rewrite of the application
necessary) for accessibility as explained in the Apple developer docs:
Access Enabling a Cocoa Application
http://developer.apple.com/documentation/Cocoa/Conceptual/
Accessibility/cocoaAXAccessEnabling/cocoaAXAccessEnabling.html
I like the Tables application. With that one, one of the things we
have going for us is that the application is still in Public Beta.
Developers are still in the adjusting stage and might approach the
required accessibility changes energetically.
Both of the above companies are european companies (PLSYS is in the
UK and x-tables is in Germany) and might feel particularly motivated
after receiving a friendly email from a representative of the well-
respected RNIB.
Hope that helps,
Joe
