I think my own observations suffice. And I have mentioned them here
before.
Zoom has some serious tracking issues. An easy example is mail. As I
type this the image does not follow the insertion point, so I type
off the screen.
Also often the visible image jumps. This can be demonstrated again in
Mail, but is not limited to Mail. You can click on a mailbox and the
focus jumps.
Also they need to do some work on the cursor movement options. I'd
like as Zoomtext has a threshold for the "only when the pointer
reaches an edge" mode. So say it starts to move so many pixels. And
for some reason when that mode is selected it is VERY VERY slow and
moving. I keep it on Continuously Move, but then it's hard to move
the pointer out of the way at times, like out of the middle of a QT
video.
These are bugs, the tracking problems are major bugs. Easy to
demonstrate. I've done so at the apple store. Anyone who uses the
Zoom feature and relies on it will see it.
But from what I hear from apple there is totally no effort being made
to resolve these issues. The limited development is being directed
towards VO, but even that is limited. This is what I've heard from
within Apple.
I have only been envolved with the Mac since November of 84. And in
that time I have learned that just because apple says something
doesn't mean it is so. Yes they are in business to make money. It's
humorous that you would mention that. That is my point. People here
seem to give the impression that apple will out of the goodness of
their collective heart fix everything. No Universal Access was
developed to offer a solution so they can get coveted government
contracts. OK, that is pessimistic. But the lack of support of U A
since it's release indicates that.
I want to be able to encourage my visually impaired friends to switch
to the Mac. I do so now only in a passive manner. I know that many of
them would just not put up with some of the shortcomings and bugs
that we currently face. We few are bleeding edge geek users who will
work around issues. Now my sighted friends I make no bones about it,
they should be using the Mac.
I hope you are right, I really do. But from everything I've heard
from within apple there is very little effort being made.

Please explain more about this. I have missed any discussion of major
bugs with Zoom. In addition to your own observations, can you provide
a link to other discussions? Thanks.
