First time I used the Root Hub. Then I connected my Belkin hub and it
worked just fine.

One other question though: can a scanner be on a hub or does it
have to have a direct plugin to a usb port? That isn't the cause of
my problem, but I did wonder, if I ever get it working, whether or
not that makes a difference.
