Hi,
I would suspect that Dean's explanation is on the money. One thing
you may wish to consider in determining versions and such when it
comes to VO is that VO is not just a bolted-on application.
screenreaderd is only a part of the package. There are connections
to numerous other frameworks including audio tools, core audio and
many other things beyond my expertise and understanding. When I
examine a Screenreader crash log, there are references to numerous
supporting and integrated resources that lead me to believe that
simply looking at VO in that sense is unreliable. VO is an integral
part of the MacOS and in my opinion, looking for upgrades within the
single component known as "screenreaderd" is minimizing the concept
of the "Talking Interface" process. I would venture to say that due
to these correlations between resources, it could be logical that so-
called improvements to applications and/or other processes could
negatively and/or positively affect the workings of VO. We certainly
have noticed changes in VO's behavior upon updates to other
software. So, with all that in mind, applaud improvements, continue
to expect improvement, and by all means let Apple know when things
foul up VO's performance.
Now that I have spewed my semi-educated, rather wordy, and possibly
totally off-base point of view, take it as you like and have
yourselves a wonderful day.
