Yes, a totally voice operated device will certainly come to market some day. 
Whether it will be the iPhone remains to be seen.  Processors (even the low 
power ones used in embedded devices like phones) are becoming faster all the 
time, and low power memory is becoming cheaper every day. A totally voice 
operated phone is sure a logical thing, and I'm sure Apple would love to be the 
first.
Note, I'm not talking about what sprint has implemented; I believe this is on 
the server. The phone merely relays the signal back to the server which 
actually does the work of speech-to-text and text-to-speech. At least, this sis 
the way it used to work; maybe there is more going on in the phone now. My 
point is that the iPhone will be more powerful than a standard cell phone, so 
its not inconceivable that the entire thing could be commanded by voice.

Isn't speculation fun!  Its certainly more fun than being angry...
