Hi Kelly,

what os are you running? If osx.4.x, open the appplications folder or the apple menu. here you will find system preferences in which you will find a "network button" this if opened will provide network status.

The os has a robust unix interface from the command line of which, you can do almost anything. I don't have all the commands at hand but I know that ping is among them if it will help. To get to terminal, open the apps folder, open the utilities folder and launch "terminal.app" from there. At this point, you are ready to type.

I hope this helps.

All,

I'm sure this is a basic question but I'm wondering if someone can give me a
pointer to how I check network connectivity on a Mac. I want to do the
equivalent of going to a command prompt for example and running commands
like ipconfig and ping in Windows. I want to see if my machine has an IP
address and such because I'm told I'm not connected to a network but the
connection itself is working when I plug it into another machine. It used
to work on the Mac so I'm trying to do a bit of troubleshooting.

Thanks,

Kelly
