Hello Hannah;

I am, to the best of my knowage the only sighted user of VoiceOver on this list. I am a profound dyslexic. (Landmark School for the World Blind 1971-1974) It is the experience of Landmark and myself that where the blind have in the bast gravitated to Windows dyslexics have tended to favor Macintosh computers.

I know of no studies that ever looked at this but I suspect it is due to the consistency of the Mac user interface and the fact that it does not use bright colours.

As I have perfect visual acuity my use of VoiceOver differs from that of the blind, my wife is blind and so I see how she uses VoiceOver. In my case I do not usually use VoiceOver to navigate but rather to read what I have navigated to. So I have the VoiceOver cursor following the mouse rather than the other way around. I also find myself turning it on and off a great deal when I am using programs where it would not help such as graphics programs.

Let me know if you have other questions. I haven't given my use much thought to tell the truth I just use it.

Hi all, I've recently joined this list as I'd like to learn about the
mac. I'm thinking of switching as I'm experiencing Windows problems,
including malware, sluggish performance, and so on. However, for someone
like me who is not only totally blind but also suffers from learning
disabilities, how could I go about learning to use the mac as I've been
a Windows user for several years. I currently do not own a mac yet by
the way, but I'm hoping to invest in one some day. Thanks, and I look
forward to hearing from you. Regards, Hannah
