thank you all for the replies.
I am a little confused about something. some of the responses to this
thread seem to indicate that colliquy does not work well with
voiceover and others seem to indicate that it does.
I have done a little more research on the project which sparked my
question and colliquy seems to be the client of choice for them.
Yvonne or anyone else. did you switch clients for preference reasons
(just wanted to) or was colliquy not functioning well enough to be
usable.

I was originally using coloquy, however the heck you spell that,
but I'm now using xchat-aqua.
It's a bit more fiddly to set up in some ways, but it's a lot, lot
lighter on this Ibook.
