Hi Greg
I downloaded the BTBmaker program, but as I'm completely new to this,
I'm really not sure how to use it. Do I also download MP3 info and
Lame encoder?
After launching do I open a word document I want to convert to Daisy
or do I open an mp3 file?
thanks, JD

Ah you want full DAISY and not this. DAISY is jsut the ticket for
things like read chapter 15.
I'm assuming you are on a Mac so you might want to take a look at
my DTBmaker program. w3.wmcnet.org/dtbmaker/
I would also suggest a real DAISY playback device such as a
VictorReader or VictorReader Stream.
The programers at Curtin University there are working on a Mac
player but it's still in development.

Hi Greg
You know, I'm really interested in this one!
I've implemented audio books on iPod Shuffles in our school
district. They are great for most students, ideal solution for
those students who have physical, intellectual disabilities
however start to be not so good for my low vision students who are
attempting to listen to a study text eg when the teacher asks the
class to study 'chapter 15' tonight. It is difficult to fwd
through the shuffle to that particular point. Hence my interest
now in all things DAISY.
I'm really unsure just where to start with it all. I managed to
get a text in DAISY format from someone however it was DAISY 3 so
wouldn't play on Katie.
Would you mind giving me a starting point? eg what is the first
thing I should purchase and where from?
Thanks, JD

I have a simple tool that will make an iPod audio book out of a
DAISY digital talking book provided the audio is in playable
order and in MP3 format. DTBmaker produces books like this. I
have added an option to DTBmaker that will make a chapter tool
XML file at the same time as you make the book. With this and
Apple's Chapter Tool program you can convert book to iPod audio
books with chapters.
The Chapters are made for each heading of the book as it is being
recorded and the XML file is placed in the books folder I am
thinking of changing my DTB2iTunes program to look for this file
and if it is there to make the book a chapter enable book.
Any comments?
