Shaun is new to the Mac, it is very different from Windows, and takes
some getting used to. Shaun has freely admitted that he is not a
"read the manual type" person, and to be fair, the VO "Getting
Started" Guide, is not exactly light bedtime reading.
I will admit that there have been some questions on this list that
Shaun and others have asked, and my initial response has been "check
the help, that's what it's there for", but this list was designed by
some good people, and our aim is to help each other, regardless of
how basic the question or task may be. There was a time when we were
all new to the Mac and VO.
The comments relating to Safari and Windows Screen Reading solutions
being more usable are well documented, but at the same time kind of
irrelevant. Whilst there is certainly a place for Windows and
Virtualisation software, Windows and its various Aasistive Technology
vendors have had a decade or more to work on their solutions, and
these are still not "perfect", and they probably never will be. This
is probably true for all Asistive Technology.
The whole point of lists like these, is to help users get the most of
their products, and to share experiences; but there ultimate aim is
to help people! Come on folks, since certain members have left, this
list has been one of the most helpful and nicest I've been on. Stop
with the sniping (you know who you are), and recognise that there are
users on this list who may not be as computer literate, and may
require a little more help.
If this is overstepping the mark, then please feel free to remove me
from this list, as I have no desire to be part of a list, where
certain members snipe at each other. I thought we had seen an end to
this with the removal of a certain list member who will remain nameless.

users of Screen reading software, just run Window-Eyes or JAWS with
Internet Explorer or Firefox and you'll immediately see the

problems in Lepard and the new version of VO.

down what I managed to do within my first month:
1. Sorted out male
2. Sorted out newsgroup access.
3. Gotten myself a decent set of apps for digital editting.
4. Installed all the tools necessary for writing and playing
interactive
fiction.
5. Gotten myself aquainted with mac OS from scratch as it is a
good deal
different to OS 9 with outspoken.
6. Installed and used VLC media player.
7. Gotten Fusion for running windows and installed it
independently.
8. Managed to update my blog and get to grips with Marsedit 2.0
Oh, let me
see, I bought my mac in august and started from nothing?
I forgot, people on this list seem to think I don't know what
the hell I
am on about. With a wide range of experience in music composition,
arrangement and engineering, not to mention mathematical
research and so on
I am well aquainted with computers and there abilities. I
started with
Eureka A4 systems, programmed them and used them for music
composition and
arrangement.
My point really is that it is getting rather boring to see the
same requests
on this list and people don't take time to learn things.
Why? If you buy a mac, invest the time in learning it.
Just my thoughts.
