While I realize the Braille Display can be detached from the PacMates, I believe they still fall into the category, overall, of having an OS, unless Apple requires you to detach the display before using it with your Mac. I don't think the OS has anything to do with it...or at least, very little. It's a matter of old technology that it is not economical or logical to support.
