I'm not sure about the enter key, as I never seem to need to use it, but it's very easy to recover a file that you have mistakenly put in the trash (the Mac equivalent of a recycle bin). The edit menu contains an option to undo the most recent throw-away command. One can also open the trash folder and copy items from it to any other location one wishes.
