well, you can't actually move a folder but you can copy it somewhere. press command-a after copying with command-c the folder/file you want to copy selected. make sure your apps folder in this case is in icon view I think I said column view by pressing command-1 that's the 1 on the top of the keyboard and then press command-v to paste it in. If you want to get the file/folder off your desktop, you have to delete it from there once the copy is done.
