Another way to change a password for an account is to go to the terminal and run the passwd command. Type "passwd" and return.

interesting, try leaving it bland for now?

If you want to set up a password for your system, go to accounts under
system preferences. if you cannot get past the updates password though, you won't be able to do anything in accounts because it will want you to unlock
and use a password to do that.

Subject: installing lepoard software updates & password

I recently received a prompt indicating that software updates were
available. When I attempted to install the updates I was prompted for a password. I have never established a password. The username was filled out
as user. Do I need a password? How do I now establish one?
thanks much for your help.
