I think there's an option to change the software password as well.

There is a Change Password utility on the distribution disk that
allows you to set a new password.  Boot the disk and get Voiceover
running and then check the Menu bar.

Another way to change a password for an account is to go to the
terminal and run the passwd command.  Type "passwd" and return.
