hey john,
I don't have a solution for you, but i wondered whether you're running
leopard? I get the same problem with shutdown now and then, and usually the
next time i boot up after this it takes ages to get to a point where VO is
loaded. Usually takes another reboot after that until the system is as
responsive as you'd expect.
Have you or anyone else seen this behaviour?
Scott

Subject: Odd Mac behavior. Please help.
Hey all. Sometimes when I try to shut down my Macbook, it doesn't shut
down. I know this, because when I try to boot it up, I don't even hear
the startup sound. I have to hold the power button down for ten
seconds or more. Then I let up, and it comes on just fine. Also, I am
looking for a way to defrag the Mac's hard drive if necessary. Can
someone please tell me if there is an accessible and free app that
will allow me to do this? Thanks so much.
