Hi. I'm also looking in to ripping audio from DVDs. I was reading
that mac the ripper can extract just the audio ac3 streams from a
dvd. But I'm not sure what to do with the ac3 file once extracted.
I remember that on the windows side, there was a plugin for winamp
that could handle ac3 files. Is there something similar for
quicktime? Or, does quicktime pro handle these already?

I have both of these programs, but they don't easily allow for just
the stripping of audio without a bunch of hacks.

Though I've not done it personally, apparently you can use
Handbrake to rip a DVD, and then extract the audio from the video
files it creates with QuickTime Pro. QuickTime Pro can be had for
$30, and Handbrake is free. Handbrake is linked from the software
section of www.Lioncourt.com

Thanks Josh, I was looking for something that does this. Now if I
can find a way to strip the audio from a DVD it would be great.

Hey all,
I've not seen this program mentioned on the list before, but I
thought I'd share. It's a wonderful piece of freeware and works
great with VO. If you want a way to get video files onto a DVD
in the format that standard DVD players can play, along with a
simple menu, this is what you'll want. It even converts a
variety of video files to the appropriate format for DVD
automatically. It's called SmallDVD, and the link is:

I've used it to make a couple of DVD's and it works
brilliantly. I do recommend checking the box to show Terminal,
so that you can watch the progress of the encodes, as it takes a
long time, like all video encoding tends to.
