Preview Pane Question

I was looking for the way you get rid of the preview pane, and was  
going to try it on my in box, as I understand this will cut down on  
the spam.  Is it correct that just moving the line down to the bottom  
is closing it?  I can't seem to find any other way through the menus  
to do this.
