You can add sounds and speech notifications to events. In
preferences, there is an Events tab, and you will find a table you
need to interact with. The VO keys and h will identify the items in
the table and you then have to vo right arrow to the first button,
which is add an action to this event. Note that you can only add one
action at a time, so if you want a sound and speech, you have to do so
twice and use the pop up button to identify what action you want. If
it is a sound, you have a pop up button that gives you several
options. You can even customize this. It's not completely a snap to
achieve, but it can be done. Hats off to the developers of this app.

The "system has new dialog" means someone has signed in too. I
don't know why VO is unable to read who has signed in, but I hope
that will be fixed soon.

This is a long shot, but I have a feeling hwat's happening, is a
contact is comeing online, or going offline, not totaly sure, mine
is saying the same thing, and i have no idea to get at whatever
it is that may be the new dialog. I find when i have Adium up,
that it's also happening when somebody signs into Skype as well.
Could that be something to do with Growl. I have a feeling
