I don't know that I'd get an MBA as my only mac. However, just to clarify:
you can get an external dvd to attach by usb;
you can get a usb adaptor to do ethernet;
you can use a usb hub.
Obviously for portability and battery conservation ou aren't going to want
to use a usb hub and/or a bunch of external devices but you do have those
options to use when needed. so if your main issue is portability, if you
don't need a dvd drive constantly, and/or you are using another Mac as your
home base, I think the MBA is a great idea. I for one think I might like to
have one at some point; can't afford it right now.

options with an MBA, don't you? If you travel a lot, and do nothing
but wireless things, then get one. However, in this case, size is not
a good thing. You only get one USB port, no SuperDrive, and no LAN
