is there a way I can use my macbook and iMac together say to cross over data without ethernet cables or a router?
A.R. Go to the Airport entry in the Status menu and navigate down until you find Create Network. Press Return and follow the instructions in the dialogue box. Once you've clicked on "OK", the other computer will see it as an available network in the Airport menu.

Cheers,

Anne
