Hi Scot and all, The two choices to give it away or keep it and replace the hd do not involve replacing it because I already have what would replace it if I gave it a home. I appreciate the info on the hd upgrade. the user guide instructs on how to replace the hd but I hadn't found where to get one. I should have known that NewEgg would have one.
I wonder though, if I replace the hd, how long can I expect the rest of the system to last before something else fails? I know the hd is the weakest link but there's also the keyboard and lcd to consider. Anyway. This is an interesting ponder because I hate to just throw stuff away if it can be used. I googled "how to replace powerbook titanium drive" and found several links of how to guides. Here's one example: http://xlr8yourmac.com/powerbook_g4/PB_G4_HD_upgrade/pb_g4_hd_upgrade.html That said, a new HD can be easily ordered from www.newegg.com for about $80. the www.macfixit.com site is also a good resource. IMHO< you may not need to give it away just yet. Although, any excuse to pick up a new MacBook might be worth it too. Best, Scott >Hi all, > >Disc utility reports failure of my powerbook titanium hd.
