I'm afraid that the reports are more exaggerated than fact. Yes, it is better to be safe than sorry, but the only actual problems of this kind for Mac users, thus far, have been in the nature of a user physically having to invite it onto their system. This was explained by another member quite well few weeks ago. Of course, it's not to say that one should believe Macs are completely invulnerable and from my former world of Windows paranoia, I am never willing to bet on this lasting forever. Still, to this date, I don't run antivirus software on my Macs and until there is substantial reason to do so, I'm willing to follow current conventions in just being smart about what I install or copy onto my systems.
