Hi Scott,
Here's a link to the documentation I followed. There are hardware
support issues with macs and ubuntu and I needed to follow some of
the steps to get everything working.
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/MacBookPro
This tells you how to set ubuntu up on a macbook pro. There are
other versions of the documents for imacs, macbooks, and so on. If
you're installing on a different machine and can't locate the
relevant ones, give me a shout and I'll pass on the links.
It talks about installing a bootloader, then partitioning the drive
with bootcamp. Then putting the live cd in and installing.
You can do it without the bootloader however but be warned - I did
this for my fiance's macbook, and when he got fed up with Orca not
playing ball on ubuntu he asked me to take ubuntu off. I went to
bootcamp to just remove the partition as you would if you had
installed windows, and bootcamp cannot see the ubuntu partition for
some odd reason, hence cannot remove it. I'm not sure how to get rid
of it yet, working on that one.
So to be safe I'd install a bootloader first. I did this with my
macbook pro.

Is there info on setting Ubuntu up on a Mac using Bootcamp or do
you follow similar procedures as you would while installing Windows?

Hiya,
You'll only get ubuntu to run without fusion as a dual boot, i.e.
you can only use one os at one time, and to use the other one you
have to reboot into it. You'll have to set this up, but it can be
done with boot camp. It's how I have my macbook pro set up.
I don't know about the DOS message. Never heard of that before but
my linux experience isn't extensive. Could be the wrong version of
ubuntu for your machine - you need an intel compatible one for an
intel machine, and a power pc compatible one for a power pc
machine, and so on.

Hello, When I went to try and run Ubuntu on my iMac, I got an
error message that said, "This program cannot run DOS on this
machine." Is there a component that I'm missing? I am running
Fusion, too. I understand, however, that it's not necessary to
have Fusion running; Ubuntu should be a straightforward
installation, should it not? Richie Gardenhire, Anchorage, Alaska.
