You can change the function of the F Keys so that you only need press CMD + F5 instead of FN + CMD + F5.

Here's how;

1. Go to "system preferences"
2. Go the "keyboard and mouse" preferences
3. In the "keyboard" tab, make sure that the checkbox called "use all F keys as standard function keys" is checked. This will mean that you can now use CMD + F5 to turn VoiceOver on and off, as well as control the volume and screen brightness if this is important to you, by using the F keys on their own. The FN key will now control

the special functions of these keys - not sure what these are sorry.

Hope this helps

Try doing Function F5. That's what I have to do if I turn mine off.

Hi,

I'm just learning how to get up and running with my macbook. I've started reading the getting started with Voice Over manual and during the chapter on using the keyboard somehow I seem to have turned Voice Over off kind of. Alex does speak the time on the quarter hour which I previously set in sys prefs and if I hold in the button normally used to turn my Macbook on I get asked do I want to really turn my Macbook off but I can't navigate anywhere with speech to give my option. If I hit command f5 I hear a kind of wap sound as when you turn up or down the volume so I'm wondering does anyone have any ideas how I can restore speech bearing in mind I don't know any Mac users in the u.k and have no sighted help available?

Kind regards

Graham
