Hi Janet,

Check out the VoiceOver Getting Started Manuals at:

http://w3.wmcnet.org/dtbmaker/books/vogs/

These extend the Apple-supplied PDF and MP3 formats to a number of
other options, including Braille, and include both Leopard and Tiger
descriptions. (The original manuals for Tiger have been available from
Apple for a few years from Apple at:
http://www.apple.com/accessibility/voiceover/manual.html
and have the MP3 files links chapter by chapter, as well as the complete
zip download that.)

Reverse tabbing is shift-tab. Going back to a previous web page is
Command-[. These are all standard keyboard shortcuts built into OS X
and are not VoiceOver specific that you (or he) can easily find. Any
menu option with a shortcut key combination (like the "previous page")
is announced in VoiceOver when you go to that menu item (and is
also displayed for the sighted user). So, if I explore the menu bar of
the Safari application (VO-keys+M to go the menu bar, where VO-keys
means holding down the Command and Option keys at the same
time; type "hi" to go to the History menu option, or the arrow keys; then
arrow down to the submenu), I will hear "Back, Command-Left Bracket"
for the navigation option and its shortcut key equivalent.

Hear are a few places to check:

Tim Kilburn's web pages on VoiceOver (pointing you to the Safari page):

I Can Work This Thing (with link to GarageBand basics):
http://www.icanworkthisthing.com/docs/mac_with_voiceover/index.shtml

Lioncourt.com (QuickTips, Guides and Tutorials, and Resources):
http://www.lioncourt.com/

The searchable archives at the Mailing List Archives:
http://www.mail-archive.com/discuss%40macvisionaries.com/

with instructions on search syntax:
http://www.mail-archive.com/faq.html#search

It's also possible to read this list at the archive site. I do this when I'm
away from my email, and there are shortcuts to browse:

http://www.mail-archive.com/discuss%40macvisionaries.com/msg36039.html

Also, if you have run a search, and want to move through by date or
thread from that post you can use those shortcuts to navigate, and
typing Control-I or Control-C will show you the listed items by date
or by thread content for the time period around that post.

When you go to the Archive Search page focus is naturally placed
in the search text field, so all you have to do is type your search terms
and press enter.

HTH

Cheers,

Esther
