Hi David,
I would attempt the following:
1. Reset it again and connect it directly to the Cable modem.
2. Let it gain the IP and verify connectivity.
3. Go into Airport Utility and do minimal changes to the AE. That
is, maybe change it's name and password under the Basestation tab and
then Update the AE.
4. Verify if you still have connectivity. If not, there's something
wrong with the AE. If it does work, then change the security to the
version of WEP you need in the Wireless pane. Leave the Wireless mode
as "Create a Wireless Network".
5. Update it again. If it continues to work, then great otherwise,
there appears to be something incompatible with the encryption
protocols supplied by the AE.
6. Make any final changes you need to make with respect to DHCP and
such then update once again. If everything still works fine then
we'll assume that the AE is working properly.
If you need your old router in the network as well, then I'd do the
following:
7. Put your original router back in place.
8. Configure the original router to not broadcast a wireless signal.
That is, simply have it as a wired router for any devices you have
that are not wireless.
9. Update your NetGear with this change.
10. Connect the AE using an ethernet cable to the NetGear.
11. Go into Airport Utility and click on the Internet button in the
ToolBar.
12. Press the Internet Connection tab and make sure that your AE is
in Bridge mode. This is near the bottom of the pane.
In essence, what you will do here is make the AE the provider of the
wireless connectivity for your network and the NetGear will handle the
DHCP distribution and wired connectivity. In this case, you are not
joining another network, you are creating and thus some issues may be
eliminated.
Let me know how you do.

Hi Tim,

computers with a security of none. I was able to use airtunes just
fine. I
went through the setup and chose join a wireless network, web 128-
bit which
is what I am trying now due to device constraints. It failed to
come back
once the settings were updated. I am really at a loss now but there
is one
more thing I might try. I was able to set up my printer wirelessly
so do
not understand why the AE will not come back after being updated.

Hi David,
• When you connect the AE directly to the cable modem, did you mean
that the AE would not broadcast properly?
• Was that with a fresh configuration of the AE?
• Do you have a static or dynamic IP with your ISP?
