Voice over actually does work with many third party applications. It really depends on the design of the application. So far, the only third party app I've really used is skype, and voice over works great with that. The next app I play with is probably going to be the CD burning program toast. As with any platform, some programs will work better with a screen reader than others. The good news is, the mac OS has built in accessibility interfaces, and as more applications are developed in Coco which is one of the main languages of the mac, they will become accessible. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Hernandez, Jose" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

Subject: VoiceOver with third party applications

How can one get VoiceOver in Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) to work with third
party applications such as Microsoft Office or Mozilla Firefox?
VoiceOver works great with integrated applications such as Safari or
TextEdit. The user is able to type words and/or characters in Safari or
TextEdit and VoiceOver will read the words and/or characters to the
user. However, in third party applications, VoiceOver does not read the
typed text. Any ideas? User would prefer not having to purchase software
to add this capability.

What is VoiceOver? See information about VoiceOver at
http://www.apple.com/accessibility/voiceover/.

Thanks !
